Nick-named the heart of the famous Trois Vallées, Meribel sits at the center of the single largest lift-connected ski area in the world, with Courchevel and La Tania to the east and Val Thorens to the west. Unlike some of its neighbors, Meribel village has pretty chalet-like architecture. Rather than a single village, Meribel can be considered as a complex consisting of several separate locations - starting with Meribel Village (1400m) and Meribel Centre (1500m), followed by more the sought-after Meribel Les Hauts (1600m) and finishing with a purpose-built Meribel Mottaret (1750m).
As Meribel sits in the center of a truly enormous skiing domain, not only it can suit pretty much any level or style of skiing or snowboarding, it also offers an enormous diversity of slopes where one can ski for weeks without running out of new places to explore. Similarly one can expect to find a great terrain for any type of ski or snowboard lessons, no matter one's technical level or fitness ability.
If you are a beginner, the nursery slopes as well as the green runs Foret and Rhodos by Rond Point, locally known as "Ronnie", and the green runs in Altiport area, that can be reached by the Morel chairlift from Altiport 1600 are the best starting point. Other dedicated beginner and young children's areas also include La Sittelle, accessed by the Plattières gondola, Le Rossignol, accessed by the Chatelet chair and Le Doron at the foot of the pistes in Mottaret. For more advanced beginners and intermediates, some of the area’s best pistes are found south of Mottaret and can be accessed by the Plattières gondola.
The runs are gentle and smooth plus there is a number of excelling skiing schools. Instructors speak many languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian.
Private Instructors or ski lessons in Meribel are offered by several world-class ski schools: ESF Meribel, Oxygene, and Le Cercle.
