Sitting at one end of the Trois Vallées, which is the single largest lift-connected ski area in the world, Courchevel is undoubtedly one of the most well-known places for skiing, especially if you are looking for an ultimate combination of luxury (thanks to its selection of swanky hotels and luxury chalets) and quality slopes.
If you are a beginner, this one of the best places for group or private lessons as Courchevel hosts some of the smoothest and widest green and blue slopes in the area. For more advanced visitors Courchevel and neighboring La Tania have 23 green, 34 blue, 32 red and 10 black slopes to offer with 150 km of runs, served by 58 lifts.
Courchevel is made up of four separate villages that are quite different in atmosphere, character, and prices. What is known as Courchevel 1850 is now called Courchevel, Courchevel Moriond (formerly Courchevel 1650), Courchevel Village (formerly Courchevel 1550) and Courchevel Le Praz (Courchevel 1300).
For beginners the Courchevel 1850 and Moriond villages are great. The runs are gentle and smooth plus there is a number of excelling skiing schools. Instructors speak many languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian.
During the busy weeks in New Year and mid-February it is quite crowded in Courchevel so try to ski on the most popular runs either early in the morning or just before the lifts shut.
Private Instructors or ski lessons in Courchevel are offered by several world-class ski schools: ESF Courchevel 1850 and 1550, Oxygene, and Le Cercle.
